Los Angeles hosts the first domestic auto show for manufacturers to introduce their 2012 lineup. Among the significant production reveals at LA were the new Honda CR-V and Cadillac XTS sedan. Audi previewed 2013 versions of the Audi S6 and S7, as well as the exotic R8 GT Spyder. The battery-powered Audi e-tron concept hints at the future of the R8, while the A3 e-tron appears ready to hit the streets of LA. Hyundai's totally redesigned Azera resembles the larger Genesis luxury sedan, but its front-drive platform is related to the midsize Sonata. The new GS sedan, available with V-6 and hybrid powertrains combines traditional Lexus styling with some Audi influences. BMW brought its i3 and i8 EV concepts first shown in Frankfurt. Nearly hidden at the back of the BMW stand was the new M5 super sedan. Chevrolet's subcompact Spark 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks made their US debuts, along with the Camaro ZL1 convertible. LA was also the first major auto show appearance for the best-selling 2012 Toyota Camry. Volkswagen's sleek new CC sedan now seats five, but its restyling was intentionally evolutionary. Subaru's new rear-drive BRZ shares its platform with Scion FR-S coupe. Infiniti showed the midsize JX crossover for the first time in the US. Mercedes highlighted its AMG product line with the ML63 SUV, SLS convertible, C63 AMG Black Series, plus the E63 sedan and wagon. Ford brought the radically redesigned Escape and the most powerful Mustang ever, the GT 500. The sporty Abarth arrives to the US to inject some performance to the tiny Fiat 500. Mazda finally enters the compact CUV market with the new CX-5, and also introduced the ultra-efficient Mazda3 Skyactiv. After years of being an afterthought, LA now has major auto show worthy of America's second largest city.
