- 2012 North American International Auto Show
Overcoming the gloom of the past few years, the 2012 NAIAS highlights the optimistic outlook of global automakers as car sales recover worldwide. GM revealed the entry level Cadillac ATS sedan and the Buick Encore compact crossover. A midsize Fusion sedan was the major introduction from Ford, along with the Lincoln MKZ concept. The new Dodge Dart is Chrysler's long delayed re-entry into the compact sedan segment. Nissan quietly introduced the new Pathfinder, now transformed into a crossover. Toyota brought several hybrid concepts and the subcompact Prius c to further expand its hybrid lineup. Acura showed the affordable ILX compact sedan, and the second-generation RDX crossover. The eagerly anticipated Acura NSX sports car will be made in the USA. A new SL is a rare event, and Detroit was the global introduction for the latest generation premium convertible from Mercedes. Audi revealed the Q3 Vail as its smallest crossover in its model range. BMW brought the new 3-Series sedans, which should drive even more customers to dealer showrooms. With memories of the last recession slowly fading, the NAIAS regains its status as the most significant auto show in North America.
