- 2012 International (Geneva) Motor Show
Geneva continues to impress as probably the most diverse major auto show in the world. Displayed on its two floors is the widest selection of production and concept vehicles anywhere. For 2012, nearly all the major manufacturers focused primarily on production-ready vehicles. Even many concept cars were clearly designed to be adaptable for production. Notably lacking were battery-electric cars, aside from Nissan's Leaf. Gasoline-electric and diesel-electric hybrids were shown by several manufacturers, but more notable was the many introductions of B-segment (subcompact) and C-segment (compact) cars from most automakers. Sports cars ranging from the affordable to the extravagant were also in evidence, so although their contribution to overall sales is relatively insignificant, manufacturers realize that these are the ideal vehicle to showcase their most advanced technology. Despite declining sales in the European market, manufacturers keep rolling out exciting new models to entice customers into showrooms across the continent.
