The Hummer H1 is a macho SUV that makes no apologies for its military origin. A boxy utilitarian body combined with all-terrain capability makes the Hummer unique. Although some buyers are attracted to the H1 for its rugged looks and image, only hard-core customers will be satisfied with its angular cramped cockpit, and lack of amenities. GM recently restyled the interior with available leather seats and Berber carpets. The H1 Alpha is powered by a 300-bhp 6.6L Duramax® turbodiesel, matched to a Allison 1000 5-speed automatic. Available models include an open-top and wagon body styles. GM claims that the Hummer can scale a 22-inch rock wall, traverse water up to 30-inches deep, and climb 60% grades.
