The new GMC Acadia is one of several new "crossover" vehicles for General Motors. Along with the Saturn Outlook, and Buick Enclave, the new Acadia is an answer to those customers who are moving out of mid and large SUVs. By retaining SUV styling traits, the Acadia complements the body-on-frame Yukon in the GMC lineup. Both offer 3 rows of seating and have a similarly sized footprint. Similarities stop there. The Acadia is a unibody vehicle offered in FWD and AWD versions. All versions are powered by an all-aluminum 3.6L V6 producing 267 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. Unlike the truck-based Yukon, the Acadia features a fully independent suspension. GMC considers the Pilot, Durango, and Explorer as competitors. Compared to the Honda Pilot, the Acadia is about a foot longer in wheelbase and overall length. Compared to the Explorer the Acadia is about 6 inches wider and 6 inches longer. The Acadia is compelling alternative for those looking to trade in their Yukon. Customers who find the GMC image and 3-row seating important but don't need the towing capability will find the superior fuel economy and road manners of the Acadia a welcome bonus.
GMC gets a new car-based SUV to appeal to non-truck customers. A fuel-efficient 3.6L V-6 is coupled to a 6-speed automatic. The Acadia is available in FWD and AWD models. Second and third row seats can fold down for up to 117 cu. ft. of cargo room. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels can be upgraded to 19-inch wheels. Towing capacity is 4,500 lbs.
