The uniquely styled Element was originally pitched as a backpack for young active males, but many other types of buyers have found that the Element offers sensible all-wheel-drive utility for suburban duty. The orginal matte-finish plastic fenders provide resistance to dents and scratching are available on the LX trim level. The EX and SC models feature painted, body-colored fenders. The interior features spill-proof surfaces. The trick doors provide good access to the back, but are tricky to operate in parking spaces. Only 2 passengers can sit in the rear seat, but they will enjoy almost limousine-like leg room. For 2007, a FWD-only SC package is offered featuring 18-inch wheels/tires, 1-inch lower ride height, projector-beam headlamps and a uniquely finished interior.
Front seat belts have been relocated to the seats to alleviate an ergonomic problem. Painted body-colored panels are now standard on EX models. A new range-topping SC FWD model features projector-beam headlamps, 18-inch wheels and tires, and a uniquely finished interior. Horsepower has been bumped by 10 hp.
