El Camino fans rejoice, because GM finally has an answer to your prayers. The Pontiac G8 sport truck features the same low-slung coupe/truck design that has been missing from the U.S. for decades. Although the sport truck is a derivative of the G8, it rides on a longer chassis to accommodate a 42.7 cubic foot bed. A 6.0L V8 rated at 361-bhp resides under the hood. A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive complete the standard powertrain. The interior has seating for two. The G8 sport truck has a trailer-towing limit of 3500 lbs. The G8 ST was shown as a 2010 production model at the 2008 NY Auto Show and later cancelled in January, 2009.
The G8 sport truck returns a vehicle to the GM portfolio that hasn't existed in the U.S. lineup for twenty years. Like its sedan counterpart, the sport truck is imported from Australia where it is sold as the Holden Ute. The sport truck is some 4 inches longer than the sedan to accommodate a 42.7 cubic foot truck bed. Power is provided by a 361-bhp, 6.0L V8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
